Kevin M. McLaughlin, DPT, MEd, CHT, SCS


    


  
    Kevin graduated from Towson State University in 1989 with a Bachelor of Science degree and Cum Laude Honors. While at T.S.U. he
competed on the Cross-Country and Indoor/Outdoor Track teams. A knee injury led him to the Athletic Training Room. It was during this
time that Kevin realized that he would not make a living running track. He became a student Athletic Trainer and passed the N.A.T.A.
Board of Certification exam in 1990. He then completed the requirements for a Masters in Education from the University of Virginia,
Charlottesville, with a concentration in Athletic Training. Kevin’s research thesis was published in the Journal of Athletic Training Winter
1991. He also presented his research findings at the M.A.A.T.A. And N.A.T.A. Annual meetings in 1990.

    Kevin's first position as an Athletic Trainer was at Loyola college in Maryland. His responsibilities were all Women's sports including
 the nationally ranked Women's Lacrosse program. He also managed the Athletic Injury Insurance program for all Loyola Intercollegiate
Athletics. Kevin stayed for 3 Years before accepting a position at the University of Maryland, College Park. While at Maryland, Kevin
provided care for the Football, Wrestling and Women's Basketball teams. He was also responsible for purchasing supplies and inventory
for three Athletic Training facilities on campus. After 5 ½ years, Kevin decided it was time for a new challenge. He enrolled in Physical
Therapy School at the University of Maryland Baltimore, during the summer of 1998. He worked as a research assistant for one of the
departments professors and acted as a Teaching Assistant for the Sports Medicine elective class. Kevin was elected by his peers to give the student address during PT School Commencement exercises at U.M.B.C. Kevin was recipient of The Outstanding Graduate Award and the Student Employee of the Year Award for 2001. Kevin then completed the requirements for transitional Doctor of Physical
Therapy in 2003. While in school, Kevin completed a specialty rotation at the Curtis National Hand center in Lutherville. After 5 years of
clinical experience Kevin passed the National examination of the Hand Therapy Certification Commission (HTCC) to become a Certified
Hand Therapist (C.H.T.) which indicates he has passed the comprehensive test of advanced clinical skills and theory in Upper Quarter
Rehabilitation.  Kevin is also a Certified Kinesio Tape Practitioner (CKTP).  In March 2013, he became a Board Certified Sports Physical Therapist (SCS). 

    Kevin opened McLaughlin Physical Therapy and Hand Rehabilitation, January 2008, in Jarrettsville Maryland. He treats patients of all
ages and disabilities. His vast background in Sports Medicine has led him to be a consultant to N.E.M.S. Lacrosse, local recreation
councils and H.S. Athletic programs. Kevin is also the Physical Therapist for Celtic Cross Lacrosse team that trains at Hanley's Fitness
in Forest Hill. Kevin continues to run when his 2 children, Cara and Quinn allow him to. He resides with his wife Jacqueline in Fallston.
David A. Rey, PTA, Licensed Physical Therapy Assistant

 



David received his Associate of Applied Science Degree and his Physical Therapist Assistant License from Baltimore City Community College in 1999. He completed his Bachelor of Science Degree, majoring in Health Systems Management, from the University of Baltimore in 2003. David's experience as a Physical Therapist Assistant includes two years in Pediatric Physical Therapy at The William S. Baer School in Baltimore. He has also spent several years working at St. Joseph Medical Center where he continues to work on weekends with Acute Orthopedic, Cardiac, and Med-Surg patients.

Prior to joining the staff at McLaughlin Physical Therapy in June of 2008, David worked at GL Physical Therapy in Forest Hill. David
enjoys working with patients of all ages, however, he is most experienced with Orthopedic, Cardiac, and patients with balance disorders.
David and his wife Michele reside in Forest Hill with their three sons.

Julie Shaffer, DPT, Doctor of Physical Therapy


Julie received her Doctorate of Physical Therapy in September of 2014 from University of Maryland Eastern Shore. Previously, she
 completed a Bachelor of Science degree in Kinesiology from University of Maryland College Park in May of 2011. Julie became interested in Physical Therapy following a knee injury during a soccer game in high school and turned to two very good therapists for months of rehabilitation.  She enjoys running and being active in her free time, as well as spending time with family.  She is currently pursuing a specialty in orthopedic manual therapy and has experience treating vestibular disorders . Julie currently resides with her husband, Stephen, in Bel Air, MD.


Julianna Rew, PTA

       Julianna received her Associate of Applied Science Degree from Carroll Community College in 2014 and received her Physical Therapist Assistant License in 2015. She enjoys working with all ages, and especially patients with shoulder and knee injuries. She joined McLaughlin Physical Therapy in April 2015. She currently lives in Upperco, MD.
